Breathing Sinuses - Curing the Symptoms of a Sinusitis Infection
Sinusitis infections are a common condition which many people suffer from each year. There are many factors which contribute to a sinusitis infection. Frequently, the sinusitis will begin because of a cold or allergy though it can also develop because of fungal infections, reflux disease, and many other diseases such as cystic fibrosis. The sinusitis itself begins when the sinus cavity lining becomes swollen, usually because of a cold or allergy. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities and attack the swollen lining, greater inflammation occurs which causes the cilia, which usually flushes out mucus and bacteria that pollute the sinus cavities, to not function properly and therefore the bacteria and mucus become trapped which then causes the sinusitis infection.

Just like in any medical condition, different treatments work for different people. In sinusitis it all depends on what stage the sinusitis is in along with other factors. What is important is finding the treatment form that works best for you and treating the sinusitis before it gets to a chronic stage that may create more problems and involve more extreme treatment options. It was with great optimism that we started out on writing this composition on Sinus Cavity. Please don't let us lose this optimism.

Another option in treating a sinusitis infection when all other treatments have failed is sinus surgery. Sinus surgery is painful, can leave scar tissue which can lead to future problems, and usually only offers temporary relief since only a portion of the inflammation and infection is removed and so the sinus pain, sinusitis, and the migraine syndrome. Patience was exercised in this article on Chronic Sinusitis. Without patience, it would not have been possible to write extensively on Chronic Sinusitis.

There are several treatments which are used to treat a sinusitis infection. One common treatment which is used is over the counter or prescribed nasal sprays. Nasal sprays work by distributing saline solution or medication up into the sinuses. The nasal sprays however have a large particle size that cannot make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to where the infection lies. The nasal sprays may only offer relief to the lower part of the sinuses. Oral antibiotics are also a commonly prescribed medication by physicians. Oral antibiotics work on many types of infections by flowing through the blood stream to the area of infection. The sinus cavities only contain a small amount of blood vessels therefore it is difficult for an efficient amount of antibiotic to arrive at the sinusitis infection. Oral antibiotics also can cause problems throughout the rest of the body, such as abdominal pain. Another newer form of treatment is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications work great because they are directly distributed into the sinus cavities so that they can cure the problem where it started. We have actually followed a certain pattern while writing on Sinus Surgery. We have used simple words and sentences to facilitate easy understanding for the reader.

Home Remedies are Also Frequently Used
Some people may breathe in hot steam. The steam is meant to help moisturize the sinuses and help thin the mucus. Though the steam may offer temporary relief and help some symptoms, in there is in fact an infection, only antibiotics may help cure it. Irrigation is also another common home remedy. Irrigation is used by inserting saline solution in to the sinus cavities to also help moisten them. Just like steam, this may only offer temporary relief and medication will need to be used.

There are many types of symptoms that may be experienced with a sinusitis infection. Some of the most common symptoms which may appear as cold like symptoms are cough, congestion, postnasal drip, green nasal discharge, and facial pain and pressure. A person may also experience a headache or even tooth pain due to the pressure of the inflammation pushing on the nerves in face. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is then considered chronic sinusitis. With chronic sinusitis a person may also experience loss of sense of taste and smell and they also may become fatigued. Depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies, there may also be other symptoms experienced. Penetration into the world of Sinusitis Infection proved to be our idea in this article. Read the article and see if we have succeeded in this or not!

Left Sphenoid Sinus - Book Review of "Sinus Relief Now" by Dr. Jordan Josephson-Part 2
Regarding surgery, Dr. Josephson was a pioneer in the procedure called FESS (Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery) which is now considered state of the art. This procedure uses an endoscope for both a diagnosis as well as during the surgical procedure. This gives the surgeon an excellent view of the area being worked on, and thus there is less bleeding, more accuracy, and packing is rarely necessary, which is very important. He says many of his patients simply go home and go to work the next day. I would have liked him to comment about endoscopic surgery using lasers as well, but he didn't make mention of that technique. People have told me that this laser procedure worked exceptionally well for them. Dr. Josephson is obviously totally committed to FESS, however, and with the micro tools he uses, he apparently is able to keep bleeding and pain levels low for patients, as is the case for endoscopic laser surgery. He also makes no comments about a new surgical procedure called sinuplasty, which is similar in concept to angioplasty. I would certainly like to hear his opinion of that new procedure.

Quote:There has been a lot of progress made in the treatment of sinusitis in the past 5-10 years, and Dr. Josephson's book puts it together and brings us up to date. 'Sinus Relief Now' is certainly a great reference for anyone with CAID problems. There are descriptions of just about every medication used in any of the treatments, both prescription and OTC. I learned several things I didn't know before. For example, I didn't know that antihistimines are only effective against allergies. I thought they would simply prevent excess mucus forming in any case. Also, Dr. Josephson feels that decongestants should not be used long term but only for a week at a time as he believes they can cause problems if used for long periods. In general the book is almost a reference work for any type of respiratory or digestive condition. All sinus sufferers would do well to read 'Sinus Relief Now' and then to refer to it any time problems come up. It is the best sinus book I've ever read.

He emphasizes that eating the right foods can make a big difference, but he isn't totally dogmatic about it. I was turned off once by another book in which the author stated that one must simply give up certain foods if they wanted to get over sinusitis, and these included cheese, chocolate, wine and all other alcoholic beverages, among other things. For a person like me who lived for several years in France, this would be unbearable. I might mention that for a French person it would be unthinkable. Producing such an interesting anecdote on Sinuses took a lot of time and hard work. So it would be enhancing to us to learn that you have made good use of this hard work!

A clean living environment is also stressed, and the book has motivated me to break out the bleach bottle and give our bathroom the once over. Molds can apparently grow very rapidly on wet items, so one should be careful about having wet clothes or rags lying around, for example. We can proudly say that there is no competition to the meaning of Chronic Sinus, when comparing this article with other articles on Chronic Sinus found on the net.

Also included in the book is a discussion about the validity of alternative therapies, like acupuncture, holistic medicine, and chiropractic, for example. I think this is useful, and in fact a niece recently told me she had acupuncture treatments for her sinus problems and she was excited about how much better she felt.

He wrote at length about new research developments, especially the remarkable work done by Mayo Clinic researchers regarding the effects of fungus on sinusitis. Although the results are still somewhat controversial, this team has shown that an atypical immune response reaction to fungus in certain people to common fungus might be the root cause of sinusitis. The theory is growing in popularity and new topical anti-fungal medications are being developed.

The five step plan that Dr.
Josephson recommends is presented at the end of the book.
The steps are: 1.
Take care of your sinuses through proper irrigation.
After many years of being subjected to various types of sufferings propelled by sinusitis without knowing what to do in order to end this situation, people can now use the numerous sinusitis treatments available to treat this health condition. Sinusitis is the inflammation of a person's sinuses usually caused by living organisms such as viruses, bacteria or fungi present in the respiratory tract. Allergens including, dust, pollen, mold and many others that can make the body experience allergic reactions which may lead to sinusitis are also among the causes of this terrible condition. Once infected by this disease, your body starts experiencing severe headaches, fever, nasal congestion due to accumulating mucus and finally difficulty in breathing. For an advanced case of sinusitis, the patient may not find it possible to notice any form of smell or odor coming from substances. :o.

Order to treat sinusitis, several forms of treatment are used and among them is the medicinal form of treatment. This approach requires the patient to visit a doctor in order to be properly diagnosed after noticing some sinusitis symptoms. After the doctor conducts the diagnosis and has known all that there is to know about the disease, he will be in a better position to prescribe to you the proper course of treatment that best suits you. This treatment may include taking of medicine such as antibiotics including the Amoxillin or other therapeutic measures that the doctor may recommend to you. For this form of treatment to work effectively, the prescribed treatment needs to be administered in accordance with the doctor's instructions or else you may never get to cure your sinusitis condition even when you take the right medication. This can occur due to the fact that, by you not following instructions, the medication may in turn make the infectious microorganisms more resistant towards the drugs instead of being killed. There has been a gradual introduction to the world of Nasal Congestion projected in this article. We had done this so that the actual meaning of the article will sink within you.

For sinusitis caused by structural abnormalities such as presence of polyps in adults and having adenoids in children, surgery is usually the most preferred type of treatment. Maxillary sinusitis prevention always aim to remove both of these abnormalities from the respiratory tract in order to make the breathing process easier for patients and ultimately end the suffering. When the surgeries are rendered successful, there is usually a high possibility that the patients may never again suffer from this health condition all their lifetime. However, follow up check ups should always be done in order for the doctor to detect any signs of a recurrence early enough and be able to treat it promptly. We were a bit tentative when embarking on this project on Sinus Treatments. However, using the grit and determination we have, we have produced some fine reading material on Sinus Treatments.

Another form of treatment that is considered to be among the sinusitis treatments is the use of home remedies. This approach sometimes includes using sea water to provide treatment. When sea water enters the nostrils, it comes into contact with these microorganisms. Once this happens, the salt in the sea water drains all water molecules from these organisms through a process referred to as osmosis since many of these organisms are unicellular. This way, the bacteria ultimately die and in the process, sinusitis gets cured. In order for one to use this form of treatment, you are required to simply take a swim in the ocean and automatically, the water will enter on its own as you swim. Otherwise, you may be forced to use a dropper to insert the sea water into your nostrils a method considered to be dangerous since the water may take a wrong turn and enter the wind pipe and make you choke in the process. Drinking of hot liquids throughout the day is believed to be another home remedy that helps to treat sinusitis. Frequent drinking of hot drinks such as hot chicken soup will help to moisturize the cilia found in the nostrils. This way it helps them to increase the pace of their movement something that will go along way in helping the cilia wash away any content of mucus in the nostrils hence treating the infection in the process. Using the intuition I had on Sinusitis Patient, I thought that writing this article would indeed be worth the trouble. Most of the relevant information on Sinusitis Patient has been included here.

Gentleman Named Jason H
Recounted to me recently how he managed to treat a sinus infection without the use of antibiotics. Jason has a long history of 15 years of chronic sinus problems, and he has undergone 4 sinus surgeries. He is happy about his last operation to remove polyps and fix a deviated septum, and he has also begun using pulsating nasal irrigation with the Grossan Hydro Pulse' device. Nonetheless, he recently managed to come down with another sinus infection. Concerned that he has taken too many antibiotics in his life, he decided to attack the problem using the nasal irrigator. At this point a disclaimer is in order. Neither Jason nor the author of this article are doctors or medical professionals, we are both just sinus sufferers. As such neither of us is qualified to offer medical advice. I would personally urge anyone with a sinus infection, particularly those with chronic problems, to see an ENT specialist.

Any case Jason used his nasal irrigation system 6 times on the day he realized he had an infection, which is a lot, but the next day he felt a lot better. He continued to use the system once or twice a day thereafter, as he normally would, and after three or four days he felt like he was completely over the problem. It was the first time he had ever dealt with a sinus infection without resorting to the use of antibiotics. Writing about Sinus Treatment is an interesting writing assignment. There is no end to it, as there is so much to write about it! :o.

Personally know it is possible for the body to heal itself why do we see more sinus infection symptoms? the process can be long and painful. When I was much younger I used to say 'when I get a cold it is really a lulu', and I would typically be sick for 2 to 3 weeks. It wasn't unusual for me to be bedridden for 2-4 days with severe headaches and nasal discharge and tearing in the eyes during that period as well. Of course colds don't last that long, and I now know that what I was experiencing was a sinus infection. Keep your mind open to anything when reading about Sinus Problems. Opinions may differ, but it is the base of Sinus Problems that is important.

The main benefit of pulsating nasal irrigation is for prevention, however, rather than treatment of sinus infections that have already taken hold, as Jason used it. I'm personally coming to the conclusion that this procedure would benefit almost everybody. I used to be a person who would become sick fairly regularly, but now I almost never become ill. I've gone over 1 ' years without a cold or sinus infection, and it only happened on that occasion because I was exhausted before a long overseas flight. At that point I simply could not hold the infection off. I sometimes hear about people who don't have chronic sinusitis and who come down with colds, and this tends to surprise me. I used to be the one who got sick all the time, but now that is almost never the case. If I do feel a cold coming on I'll use my nasal irrigator two or even three times a day for 1-2 days (I normally use it twice a day in any case). If I feel a possible infection coming on I'll also take 5 mg of prednisone, and I normally also use a steroid spray, flonase, although there are a number of such products on the market. For about five years now this regimen has worked well for me. One needs to be careful with prednisone, however, as it can cause harmful side-effects. I use it sparingly, and my doctor says it is not an issue.

Once again, I would recommend that most people seek advice from their doctor when they begin to fall ill. People like Jason and I, who have long histories battling sinus infection, can tell when we have one, but that is not the case for most people. There is no doubt, however, that pulsating nasal irrigation with a saline solution is a huge help, and I'm convinced it would help lower the number of colds caught by most people, even those who do not have chronic sinus problems. And it can be used even for treatment of a sinus infection, as Jason did, although it might be best to try this under a doctor's supervision. Accept the way things are in life. Only then will you be able to accept these points on Sinus. Sinus can be considered to be part and parcel of life.

Clearly the body will eventually heal itself, but the healing process can be much faster using proper medications, such as antibiotics in this case.
However, I too began to wonder if I was taking too many antibiotics after a number of years.
At present I'm pleased to say that my nasal irrigator keeps the amount of antibiotics I use down to a low number.
Ignorance is bliss they say.
However, do you find this practical when you read so much about Sinus?
